California's Clean Miles Standard
Making electric rideshare more accessible
RIDE helps income-qualified, high-volume rideshare drivers switch to electric vehicles by providing financial incentives and practical resources. Overseen by the California Public Utilities Commission, RIDE supports the state’s Clean Miles Standard by accelerating the shift to zero-emission vehicles and reducing climate and air pollution. The Clean Miles Standard goal is for Uber, Lyft and HopSkipDrive to reach 90% of rideshare miles in zero-emission vehicles and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The program is designed to make going electric more affordable and equitable for low- and moderate-income drivers while advancing California’s broader clean transportation goals.
Why it matters

Rideshare vehicles log significantly more miles than personal vehicles, contributing disproportionately to transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions.

California’s climate goals require a rapid shift to zero-emission vehicles in the rideshare sector.

Upfront vehicle costs and charging challenges can make EV adoption difficult for many drivers. RIDE helps reduce these barriers for low- and moderate-income drivers.

Supporting drivers directly ensures the transition to clean transportation is equitable, practical and sustainable for communities statewide.
